The 1st
National Congress of Liberal Party
Bangladesh(LPB) was held in Dhaka on 3rd
February 2001. The theme of the congress was
"Liberalism for Human Development". The
whole day congress was divided into 4
sessions.
Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Vice President of
Liberal international was present as the
chief guest in the congress.
Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed, Leader and President of
LPB presided over the congress.
The election session was presided by Mr.
Subhas Chandra Boiragy.The new executives
were elected In that session .Sk. Mohiuddin
Ahmed was reelected as the President
unopposed.Mr.H M Borhanuddin was elected as
new Secretary General and Ms.Selina Akter
Rosy was elected as new Treasurer where Mr.
Monoz Kumar Mondol elected as National
Director.
In the delegate session 4 political
resolutions were passed by the delegates
from all over the country:
1. Every political party of Bangladesh has
to has to elect upto 40% women leadership in
it's National Executives and has to ensure
nomination of 40% women candidates in the
National Parliament Election.
2. To ensure political representation of the
Minority People reserve seats shall be there
in the National Parliament and shall be
fitted up through separate electoral system
by the direct vote of the minorities
3. Senior citizens shall be provided with
free transports, medical treatment,
recreation and in case of necessity
residential facilities.
4. Developed Countries while providing aid,
grants, loans, investments to Under
Developed & Developing Nations, should set
preconditions that the governments of those
nations have to ensure human rights and
functional democratic environment.
It has to be ensure the World Bank, IMF and
WTO be more democratic in their decision
making and functioning. To spread since and
technological innovations, all over the
world, particularly 3rd World Nations, IPR
and TRIP has to be abolished.
In the congress a number of publications
were presented by The Institute of Liberal
Democracy the think tank of LPB.
Unfortunately the fundamental group of
Bangladesh called a strike on the date of
congress but more than 400 delegates was
present from deferent area of the country to
made congress success.
