The Special National Congress of Liberal Party Bangladesh (LPB) was held in
Dhaka on 10th November 2006. The theme of the congress was "Liberalism for
Good Governance ". The whole day congress was divided into 2 sessions.
Mr. Md. Saiful Islam Vice President of LPB presided over the inaugural
session and Mr. Amin Ahmed Chaudhury presided over the delegate session.
In the delegate session 4 political resolutions were passed by the delegates
from all over the country:
1. No election without free and fare atmosphere, neutral administration and
set up a neutral election Commission.
2. Demand an official declaration from the government to ensure that they
will not harass and will not try to kill Party Leader Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin
Ahmed.
3. (i)To ensure political representation of the Minority People, reserve
seats shall be there in the National Parliament and shall be fitted up
through separate electoral system by the direct vote of the minorities.
(ii) To ensure the women representation in all the political parties
executive level as well as the candidate in the general elections to
nominate up to 40% women from every political party.
4. Government has to declare to set up a neutral ANTI CORRUPTION COMMISSION,
HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION and an OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN, as well the
separation of JUDICIARY; otherwise never the nation will be free from
corruption, nepotism, injustice and overall economic backwardness.
In the delegate session “Amended Party Constitution-2006”, a new
“manifesto-2006” and “ByLaws-2006” were passed anonymously. The delegates
also elect Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed as Party Leader and President, Md.
Saiful Islam as Executive Chairman for National Cabinet, Amin Ahmed
Chaudhury as National Chairman, Afzalul Haque Sikder as Secretary General
and SM Rafiqul Islam as Treasurer as per amended constitution.
The delegate session also determined to hold a fresh National Congress after
General election-2007. The session also took a resolution to request exile
party leader to nominate other national executives within short time.
Delegates from different districts were present to make congress success.
