Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed, The Leader & President of Liberal Party Bangladesh, was
arrested on the evening of 27th November, 2004, by the police of Bhaluka
Police Station under Mymensing District, along with his driver and office
peon, without warrant of arrest just from in front of Party Head Quarter
in Bara Maghbazar and took him to Ramna Police Station in Dhaka. There
they implicated him in a false and fabricated Bank robbery case (Bhaluka
P.S case No. 2(10) 04 dated 4 october 2004) and took him with his driver
and peon to Bhuluka at dead of night. The car is in the police station
of Bhaluka and all necessary papers regarding the Purchase of the car
is there. Last October 2004, he purchased a 1000 cc Nishan Private car
with valid documents.
While taking him to Bhaluka Police officers tried to kill him in the name
of Crossfire. But some constables, getting the sense of their heinous
intention, did not let him get down from the vehicle and he was saved.
On 28th November, in the Bhaluka Police station police beat ruthlessly
while he was tied down and hanged by his hand to the ceiling. Officers
took part in the beating. They asked repeatedly to give confessional statement
of the bank robbery. As he asked them why shall he give a confessional
statement when he don’t know anything about it, they said that one
Babul is associated with the robbery and his car was found and that is
why our leader the sole responsible for the bank robbery.
Then on 29 November, 2004 in the evening that is after
about 48 hours he was placed before a Magistrate in his office chamber
and was brought back in the Police station under Remand for five days.
Again he had to go under unendurable barbarous torture.
During the previous torture he fainted several times, and also the torture
was so terrible that he could not bear it and got senseless. He became
too ill even to move. During these periods in Police station he was not
allowed food, sleep and the water was so bad smelled. As he was innocent
and do not know nothing about the bank robbery, he could not confessed.
That natural non-confession brought him more torture. he was placed before
a Magistrate after the remand period, the Magistrate ordered to sent him
to the Jail custody. Seeing his physical condition too worse the jail
authority admitted Mr. Ahmed in the jail hospital and he undergo medical
treatment there till the day of his release on bail.
This is also to mention that just after the bank robbery, police and the
villagers caught the robbers, Four of them were killed on the spot and
three others were arrested. In the FIR and also in the statement of the
caught robbers nowhere was found minimum implicacy of Mr. Ahmed. He was
arrested and tortured only because to stop his political progress which
is LIBERAL DEMOCRACY and also opposed by Radicals,
Dynastic political
groups, Fundamentalist etc.
On 15 December, 2004 Honorable District Judge granted bail and as there
was no case or General Diary in his name anywhere in Bangladesh he was
released from the jail custody on 16 December, 2004 the (National Victory
day of Bangladesh).
After being released from jail he retuned in Dhaka and is admitted in
the Red Crescent Holy Family Medical College Hospital undergoing physical
and mental treatment. He is in panic of being harassed and tortured by
police offices. There is every possibility that they will get him arrest
in other false and fabricated cases once they find him under their grip.
Even in Dhaka he is feeling insecure, very much worried and anxious for
some obvious reason.
With these connection some other conspiracies already
started from vested quarters:
1. The Media widely Published the news of the arrest with the connection
of bank robbery but most of them did not published a single line when
and how Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed became released, though a press release
was send to the media from Liberal Party Bangladesh.
2. The Election Commission –EC of Bangladesh has
made another funny game with threw a challenge to the Liberal Democracy(
Which is focused to many Bengali intellectuals as western politics).
Liberal Party Bangladesh –LPB submitted an application for EC registration
under Representation of the people order, 1972 (P.O No. 155 of 1972) on
9th June 2004 with proper documents. It is noted that Registration is
not mandatory for political parties. Even Major parties still do not agree
to submit any application to the EC.
The EC after receiving our application made scruting and finding the application
valid and published Notice in 2(two) wide circulated newspapers on 21
August 2004.
Untill the arrest of our leader on 27th November they did not send any
letter to LPB for final hearing in front of commission for grant or rejection
application for registration.
But after the arrest of Mr. Ahmed and even released from jail on bail,
The EC secretariat sent a letter to LPB mentioned that the application
for EC registration of LPB was rejected by the EC on 21 December 2004,
when already he admitted in the Holy Family Red Crescent Hospital.
In the rejection letter the Law section of EC secretariat quoted the clause
90 (6) of Representation of the people order 1972. But the last line of
the clause it is clearly states that, “ but it is conditioned that
no application can be rejected without providing reasonable opportunity
to the applicant party of a hearing” .
After receiving the latter The Leader, personally talk to the Chief Election
Commissioner-CEC over telephone from his hospital bed and CEC could not
answer any satisfactory legal reason. But requested to send a further
representation against the letter already sent to LPB by EC. Already we
sent a letter to CEC on 4 January 2004.
Now it is clear that these heinous activity and step taken by the EC,
Media and police are co related and manifest the ill motivated design
of the vested quarter to stop Liberal Democratic Politics and the Leadership
awaking the people towards civilized Liberal philosophy that ensure good
governance and human rights, Social justice, Equality, Political Rights
of Minority and so on.
Now the conclusion of total activities of vested quarters come to me as
a threat to the life of Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed and to his family also.
Already he applied for proper security for him and his family to the H.E.
President, H.E. Prime Minister, Home Ministry, IG of police and other
state Organisations But Nothing was taken in favour of him. Also all the
information with document was sent to most of the Embassies and High Commissions
located in Dhaka. By this time mostly everyday political leaders are killed
by many way.
Under the above Circumstances, we request you for your active voice (on
behalf of your organization or country) towards Bangladesh government
to ensure the life security of the Leader & President of LPB and his
family.
